Cute Maternity Outfits

Cute maternity outfits, I think, are things every pregnant woman wants to have. Dare I say, needs to have? Yes, there are days when we couldn’t care less how we looked because of one (or two) of the many ‘growing pregnancy pains’. But, outside of that, we still want to look fairly cute at least. The best part is that maternity clothes have evolved over the years, and have become more and more fashionable. No more plain, over-sized, and style-less clothes. We can be very pregnant and still very fashionable. The challenge may just be in finding the right style for you.

“I’m pregnant and would love to look frumpy “.                                                          – said no pregnant mama ever!

I actually remember wearing my pants unbuttoned and half unzipped, while holding it up with a belt! I also wore long tank tops under many of my tops, to cover up for any shortness of my tops as a result of my growing tummy. Then the time came where I wore my husband’s t-shirts, his sandals (I had swollen feet during my first pregnancy), and even his joggers. All because I was looking for ways to be comfortable without having to actually get myself proper maternity clothes. Why? I still don’t know :/

Thankfully, from jumpsuits to dresses, tank tops to jackets, and from leggings to dress pants, maternity clothes are now readily available in almost any style you could think of and for every fashion preference. That is, whenever you’re ready to make the switch lol.

Outfit 1: From Work to Play.

Casual maternity clothing or outfits may be the easiest to put together. Comfortable stretchy leggings, flowy tunic top, embellished sandals,  jewelry or no jewelry, bag or no bag, and you’re still all set. Rompers and jumpsuits can also be trendy maternity clothes. Jumpsuits in particular can be casual wear, work wear, or for going out. It all depends on the style of the jumpsuit and what you wear it with. However, when you’re pregnant and taking frequent bathroom breaks, neither one may be the most convenient. But before the increased bathroom visits kick in, they could still be a stylish consideration.

Outfit 2: Casual Maternity.

Maternity clothes for work may prove to be the most challenging, especially if your workplace has set dress codes. I have worked in a Hospital and wore only scrubs to work. And I have worked in an organization where Casual-Friday was a big deal. I have also worked with another company where Casual-Fridays were non-existent, and we always had to be professionally dressed every day of the week. The differences in what is required in each work place present their own challenges when it comes to finding appropriate maternity clothes and shoes too.

Outfit 3: Maternity Work Wear.

When it comes to maternity clothes for events, like weddings, military balls, or even events like a professional maternity photograph session, the outfits would usually involve a dress. Other frequent options are pant suits, evening suits, ball gowns, or evening dresses.

Overall, some staples I would suggest having would be open front cardigans/dusters and blazers, as they would come in handy for the various stages of pregnancy.  Another advantage is that they can easily go from work to play. You will find some plus-size duster options here. Midi-dresses are also very versatile and would be good staples. They can be layered up for colder months and they can also be casual or work wear. You also can’t go wrong with tank tops, tunics and leggings.

No matter the occasion, comfort is key, especially around the tummy. It is important that our maternity clothes be not just cute, but also practical. So keep your staple items close, and add items here and there till you have your favorite comfortable, complete, and cute maternity outfits! Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

  1. I love these outfit suggestions! Just because a woman is pregnant, it’s not an excuse to dress frumpily. Comfort is an important factor to consider besides style. I’m not sure about the heels though. I can’t even wear heels when I’m not pregnant. Lol! It was flats for me all the way back when I preggers. 🙂

    1. Flats are forever faithful aren’t they?! Lol!
I can relate regarding heels and pregnancy. After a certain stage, heels become a no-go for me too 🙂

  2. I am definitely loving that second maternity outfit with the green dress. Omg I would’ve killed for an outfit like that when I was pregnant, but most of my pregnancy was during winter months. I will be looking for that kind of dress for my next one though. It looks so snug and comfortable. I loved dresses that show off the baby bump like that.

  3. I love that last outfit suggestion. it’s awesome…I am not pregnant but unfortunately I have the “pregnant” body type, otherwise known as the apple shape, so maternity clothes and styles for maternity are actually are flattering on me. 🙂

    1. I think it’s amazing how different clothing items flatter different body types. That’s actually a topic on it’s own; and it’s something women should know.
I am not apple shaped but I have shopped for maternity wrap tops and dresses that accentuated my waist and didn’t let my hips stick out too much. So I guess whatever works and whatever section it can be found in is fine.
PS: One time I got a perfect v-neck orange sweater from the men’s section 🙂

  4. Ahhh, yes! I remember when I was pregnant with my first child, I was looking to find cute things. I would go store to store trying to find something I liked. Now I walk by a store in the mall and think to myself, why didn’t they have that before? We do get to the point of not caring, but still, want to look decent.

  5. These are great! I remember being pregnant with my first and not wanting to go out and buy maternity clothes because I knew I’d only be wearing them for 9 months and it seemed like a waste. But it made such a huge difference in the way I felt about myself when I decided to buy a few items that complemented and showed off my belly. I love all these looks but especially the casual maternity look!

    1. I’m sure there are so many of us ladies who just couldn’t justify paying for outfits that we would only be able to wear for nine months. Especially if the cost was on the high side.
But it does make a difference as you said. Definitely beats wearing unzipped pants! Haha!

  6. All 3 maternity outfits are very cute, but I have to say that I absolutely love #2! So beautiful. 🙂

When I was pregnant with my children (they’re all teenagers now) I didn’t have that many options for casual maternity clothes so most of the time I didn’t look as fine as I wished for.

Lucky are the ones who go through this phase now, at a time when both comfortable and elegant maternity outfits available even online.

  7. I really love these maternity outfits, they’re really cute and stylish. But my favorite is outfit 1, minus the heels because I don’t think I would be able to walk in them while pregnant. I love jeans and I would still choose to wear jeans even when I’m pregnant.

There was a time when you can only wear leggings and maternity dresses when you’re pregnant so I’m glad that more and more clothing lines are creating maternity outfits that make pregnant women comfortable and fashionable.

  8. I absolutely adore the three options you displayed! And it is so true, the fashion (if you can call it that) for pregnant women was just plain horrible back in the day, wasn’t it?

“I’m pregnant and I would love to look frumpy. ” Hahaha. Love it.

  9. Let’s see… My ultimate favorite is outfit number 3! It’s so chic and definitely comfy! Of course, it’s no excuse to look pregnant when you’re pregnant! Wear what you want and wear it proud! I just love the olive top, the floral blazer, and the high-waist pants! :3 The olive top definitely hides the belly with that flowy length. The bag is cute too! 😀

    1. I like how you say don’t look pregnant when you’re pregnant lol! Wear what you want and just have a blast!

I’m happy you found something you like 🙂
